‘O Espaço’ is an Artistic and Sustainable Research and Production Center in Barreiro’s Historic Heart, which provides:

  • Art Residencies,
  • Literature and Poetry presentations,
  • Installation, Video, Sound and
    Performance Art,
  • Workshops,
  • Ecological and Philosophical Debates, and
  • Exhibitions

     

The Space is composed of an apartment, a studio, a gallery and a restaurant.

Founded by the artist, academic, curator, and organiser, Inês Rolo Amado, O Espaço is a vibrant hub that welcomes both local and global communities. It is an inclusive space that opens its doors to all that need and would like to enlarge their creativity through enquiry and sustainable production.

This is a space where creativity together with the practice of mindfulness / deep awareness will be present. This inclusive space is dedicated to sustainable research and artistic production. It hosts a diverse range of activities emphasising creativity and deep engagement.
 
This is an interdisciplinary space focused on the development of artistic output and enquiry into social and cultural environment, which bridges the production and democratization of knowledge, with a focus on personal and collective immersion and expansion.

 

 

About Creator & Founder Inês Rolo Amado

 
Inês Rolo Amado works and lives between the United Kingdom and Portugal. Her academic teaching and research work has been developed at several English universities, such as De Montfort, Southampton, UH, Oxford Brooks, and a frequent guest at Kunsthogskolen I Bergen Norway. Also an occasional guest at Chelsea School of Art, Byam Shaw, Évora University, Portugal, Arco School of Art Lisbon, Schools of Art Genoa, Italy, Antwerp Belgium and at Rutgers University New Jersey, USA.
 
Inês Rolo Amado’s academic work involves mentoring and supervising doctoral students. Rolo Amado’s work includes multimedia, sculpture, video, site-specific installation, and performance with a special focus on interdisciplinary, collaboration and participatory projects through dialogue, interaction, exchange and sharing.
Inês Rolo Amado organised and curated The International Multi Media Symposium an event that took place in the Islands of the Azores involving 25 international artists, writers, musicians and poets focusing on the concept of Place and People with an intercultural and interdisciplinary approach.
 
In 1997 Inês created Sands in Time, with technical support from Dave Lawrence, the first live-art installation broadcast on the Internet. Images beamed to London from the Azores by satellite were fused with images of London and projected as part of an installation; a video broadcast of the installation was live screened on the net.
 
In 2000 Inês organised and curated BreadMatters I in Poland; and In 2003 BreadMatters II in Lisbon. Followed by BreadMatters III in West Cork Arts Centre, under the umbrella of Cork European Capital of Culture and BreadMatters IV took place in Nicosia and in Paphos, Cyprus.
 
Inês Rolo Amado has held one person shows in Portugal, Norway, Italy, England, Poland, Belgium and the USA.
